Havant Borough Council have announced by a news release that they are going to put some new cycle paths in the area and improve some existing ones. The councillor in charge of transport Cllr Jenny Wride has been quoted as saying she is pleased the funding has become available for these improvements.

The residents will be contacted if their roads are affected.

There will be a new off road cycleway on Southleigh Road in Denvilles, which

will also include an improved pedestrian and cycle crossing point

near Rowan Road.

There will be improvements South of Rowan Road to Emsworth Road which will include some freshly painted markings at junctions.

This will be good for pupils of Warblington school who choose to ride their bikes to school.

I think this is good for the community and I don't think cycle paths are a nuisance or cause any inconvenience for car drivers in our area.

The only Problem you get is when cyclists use Zebra or pelican crossings - now that's annoying!

Do you ride a bike? Will this be good for you?

let us know.......

The route along the Hermitage Stream will have some improvements and The Swanmore Road Safe route to school scheme will be linked up with the Park Lane route to Horndean and Dunsbury Way.

    The one down Southsea is very long and I think, dangerous! I hope the cyclists use them, as today I had a bloke riding towards me on the wrong side of the road! I dont know how I didnt hit him - some cyclists are just terrible!

    Yeah cycle paths are ok, they have there place but what happens when a car parks on it or a lorry thats unloading, they then become unsafe, and the worst cycle lanes are like the ones down portsmouth seafront, they have the cyclist coming the wrong way down the road towards the oncoming traffic, lets hope they dont introduce any like that in our area!

    I dont think that the cyclists are lazy to be honest. I'm sure they feel alot safer cycling across crossing rather than going directly across traffic. Cars dont generally consider cyclists as other traffic and dont give way to them at all!
    Good news they are improving the cycle paths.

    Thats good for cyclists - especially kids. I know what your saying about the cyclists riding on pedestrian crossings - laziness on their part I think.
    I ride a bike occasionally and think that the cyclepaths provide a bit of safety. You do get cars getting close still though!
