Football Season is upon us!

Saturday 8th August marks the start of a new season of football.

The Coca-Cola Championship, Coca-Cola League One, Coca-Cola League Two all begin then and the English Premier League starts 1 week later on Saturday 15th August.

In havant we have our own home team to support - The Hawks.

Havant and Waterlooville Football club. Based in Martin Road, West Leigh, The Hawks play non-league football and are in the Conference South League. Their Manager is Shaun Gale.

The club was formed way back in 1883 Havant Fc as it was known then, back in the day were in the Portsmouth Football League and had some great players including England Forward Bobby Tamblin.

They joined with Leigh Park FC -  a sunday league team who had some success in 1958 winning the FA Sunday Cup and became Havant and Leigh Park FC - They then topped the Portsmouth League and worked their way up through the seasons which culminated in them reaching the first division in 1977!

In 1998 Waterlooville football club merged with havant and they became the team they are today, In their first season as a merged team, Havant & Waterlooville won the Southern League, Southern Division under the management of former Crystal Palace and Portsmouth defender Billy Gilbert.

They have had a lot of success including their big match with Premier league team Liverpool in the 2008 season which came about from the fourth round FA cup draw and through sheer hard work and determination from the team. Cup fever gripped Havant and I for one remember it well. Their journey to that cup match and the run up to it  made the defeat when it came largely irrelevent!

This is the twelfth season as the Hawks (Havant and Waterlooville FC) and they hope for a lot of success this season!
