It's almost time for the Schools to re-open and for some local Havant people they will be sending their little ones to school for the first time.

Looking for a good school is very important, location is paramount and also the success of the school - will it be good for your child?

In Havant we have a choice of 10 Primary schools, all very good and rated highly.

You can read the individual school performance tables for Havant Here

I will focus on three local schools for this article.

Top of the list is St.Albans

A C of E Primary School they aim to provide a first class education for all of their pupils within a caring, Christian environment.

The School was built in 1958 to cater for Leigh Park people who had moved up from Portsmouth and originally went to a Christian aided school.

This year the school had an interim Ofsted inspection in July and inspectors classed the school as Outstanding - As before in 2007 when it was last inspected the school still retains their achievement.

A quote from the ofsted report from 2007

'This is an outstanding school. This is because of the first rate

leadership of the headteacher who has a highly committed staff. Their

ability to inspire and motivate pupils is outstanding. The school has

sustained its very high standards, quality of provision and leadership

that were last reported on in 2001.'

St Thomas More's is another excellent school, Its primarily a Catholic School but welcomes all children who would like to benefit from their catholic ethos.the head teacher is Denise Willis and she promotes an air of kindness, caring and understanding for all pupils.

the School likes to focus on the fact that 'Every Child Matters'

and the five core outcomes are

  • Be Healthy
  • Stay Safe
  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Make a Positive Contribution
  • Achieve Economic well being
The last Ofsted report was taken in January 2008 and was very impressive. Here is a quote from the report.

'St Thomas More Catholic Primary is a satisfactory school with some good

features. The majority of parents are very supportive of the school,

indicating the good partnership which the school has developed with

them. One parent wrote that 'all staff treat the children (and parents)

with great respect and courtesy and are very encouraging'. The school

works well with parents and other agencies to ensure pupils'

well-being. Good links with other schools and organisations are also

evident.'

Sharps Copse Primary and Nursery School is a school which is constantly improving. Its in the middle of West Leigh, Havant.

The staff are really working hard to make the school a success and  have been written about favourably in the last ofsted report. The headteacher Mrs C Koerner and her team are all proactive in making pupils time at the school successful and fun.

The Governors play a big part in helping the school and are proud to be working with such loyal and helpful staff.

Their motto is Learning for all 'In the heart of our local community'

All the Schools in our area are very good and we hope you find the right place for your child!

My friends daughter went to St Thomas Mores and there are alot of people who take their kids there that don't even live locally - they just want their children in a religious school as the think they will do better educationally - Barncroft infants is just as good if not better and my children did really great there!
