Sheila Hancock CBE Opens new theatre at the Havant Academy.

There was theatre royalty in Havant this week when actress Sheila Hancock CBE opened the new theatre which has been built in the Havant Academy in West Leigh.

The talented actress has had an acting career lasting over 60 years and had the young audience that was present for the opening, hanging on her every word as she spoke about her life and career. Urging them to to do well in school and to work towards studying at University. She was married to John Thaw and appeared in many television shows including Doctor Who, new tricks and Kavanagh QC. She has appeared in numerous films including The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Three men and a Little Lady. She has had a varied theatre career working in repertory during the '50s and playing major roles in Cabaret and Sister Act the Musical just recently at the London Palladium.
Some of the students of the Academy performed for her singing 'You've got a friend' and 'This Love' by Maroon 5 which she enjoyed and then she was given a tour of the schools new facilities including literacy rooms and a large 'Master' class that will be able to hold around 90 children at a time. The academy is now halfway through their 10 million pound refurbishment.
Mrs Hancock is now a Friend of Havant Academy and will continue supporting the school in the future.
